English Language Academy

The English Language Academy (ELA) was founded in 1988 and is staffed by a team of qualified, dedicated and experienced teachers who are all native or bilingual speakers of English. The English Language Academy is fully licensed as a school by the Malta Ministry of Education, is an accredited founder member of FELTOM (Federation of English Language Teaching Organisation in Malta). The school prepares students for international examinations such as IELTS, TOEFL and Cambridge examinations. It is also currently the only centre in Malta for the new TOEFL IBT test.

Important Notes

Classes are run between Mondays & Fridays. Each session is of 45 minutes.
The school is closed on the following days: 01 January, 10 February, 25 and 31 March, 07, 29 June, 15 August, 08, 21 September, 08, 13 December and 26 December any sessions missed on these days will be made up for on other days of the week.
Students’ level of proficiency is established through a written assessment test and an informal oral test on the first day of school.
All students who attend a minimum of 80% of the course are entitled to a Certificate of Attendance.
The school provides basic course material at a nominal charge of €20.00. It is expected for a student to move up a level after four weeks of classes. In this case, a new book for this level would have to be purchased for the price of Euro 10.00 per book. Course Registration Fee of €20.00 applies.

Accommodation:

1Balco Harmony and Balco Symphony Hostels

The Balco hostels are situated close to the school in Gzira and are rated first class by the Malta Tourism Authority.

Balco Harmony is a family run hostel with the lowest prices available. Each dorm has a maximum of 4 beds with its own private facilities with private toilet, shower and wash hand basin.

All rooms have balconies. Standard room facilities include safety deposit box, fridge and satellite television at no extra cost. Heating and cooling facilities are available in certain rooms at an extra cost. All guests can make use of their fully equipped kitchen including all kitchenware. Towels are changed twice a week and room cleaning including linen is carried out once a week. Wi-Fi and laundry service is available at a minimal charge.

All 17 rooms in the Balco Symphony Hostel are for single occupancy. The rooms are carefully designed and having the facilities of a fridge, hair dryer, telephone, sat TV/radio and balcony or bay window. There are 2 kitchen for guests at no extra charge. All residents are given a front door key and may enter the residence at any time. All rooms are cleaned once a week, towels are changed twice a week and garbage is collected from all the rooms. Laundry is also available to all guests at a charge. Wi-Fi is available at a charge of €2.00 per GB.

2Mercury Residence

The Mercury residence offers self-catering accommodation in comfortable apartments in the heart of Sliema. There are 18 apartments on 5 floors. A passenger lift services all floors. The apartments have a fully equipped kitchenette (with electric 4 burner top and oven), dining area and private bathroom. Each apartment is equipped with a safety deposit box and most apartments have a balcony or terrace. There is free unlimited Wi-Fi in each apartment and a self-service laundry room with washing machines and tumble dryers (at a small charge).

3Homestay

We recommend this accommodation to younger students who need supervision as well as to students who wish to immerse themselves in the Maltese culture. All host families are situated within walking distance of the school and are also on the main bus route.

TRANSFER RATE:

Transfer from Malta International Airport to accommodation, return €40.00 maximum 2 persons.
For one way transfer €23.00, maximum 2 persons.
Flight details are to be received at least 7 days prior to arrival of the student.
